ABOUT SQUAMISH

Hundreds of kilometres of trails for mountain biking, walking or running, Thousands of rock climbing routes, three golf courses, 6 rivers to kayak or fish, and local lakes, all on the ocean and surrounded by mountains and forests.  What more do you need to know about Squamish?

In the past Squamish has been an agricultural and industrial town, with industries like hop farming, forestry, pulp production and the railways defining the major industries of the town.  While some of that still exists, much of it has given way to the overwhelming recreational draw of the area.  However, Squamish has yet to lose its authentic small town sensibilities and charm.

With 40 to 50 minute drives to Vancouver and Whistler, many workers in these locations have chosen to make Squamish their home. Some are here for the phenomenal recreation Squamish has to offer, whereas others enjoy the close knit community feel. The population of Squamish was 14,949 in the last census, but look for that number to be substantially higher in the upcoming years.

Some very big things on the horizon for Squamish are the opening of Quest University, a private, secular university , an expansion of the Capilano College campus, and numerous housing projects. And every year, new trails are built and more climbs are initiated.
